Class of 2007: Linebackers (Top 337)

Most of the thumbnails listed below were written in the spring/early summer. Rankings have been slightly modified since then.

1 Chris Galippo LB 6'3 230 4.60 Anaheim Servite California USC Galippo is the top linebacker on the west coast and one of California's top 2 prospects. A rare early offer by USC, he committed to the Trojans in February 2005. As a junior he totalled 161 tackles, including eight for losses, two sacks and blocked four punts. Playing for a talented tema against top competition, Galippo rose to the occasion in the toughest match-ups. Against a Long Beach Poly team loaded with talent and speed, Galippo finished with 16 tackles and dominated the game, nailing the Poly speedsters in the open field. Possessing great speed and athleticism, he hasn't fully physcially matured yet and projects to still get bigger over the next couple of years. Also has excellent leadership skills and character. One coach said the following about him: "Galippo is a linebacker with excellent size and speed and what is really impressive is how well he plays in open space. One on one against the offense he always seems to come through. To do that a LB needs speed, strength and good tackling technique." One of the nation's best and arguably the top LB in the nation. 2 Martez Wilson LB/DL/WR/TE 6'4 228 4.58 Chicago Simeon Illinois Wilson has really blown up during the spring evaluation period, more so than anyone in the nation. He is being called one of the best prospects to emerge out of the state in recent history and has drawn comparisons to Simeon Rice. An All-Conference performer as a junior playing at DE and WR, he could play either DE, OLB, Te or WR in college with his nice frame, speed, fine strength (25 bench reps) and great quickness (4.3 shuttle). As a junior, he registered 99 tackles, 25 TFL and 18 sacks. At WR, he had 14 receptions for 5 TDs. Really put together well, he has emerged as one of the top linebackers in the nation and the top prospect in Illinois. Before May he only had offers from a very few lower-level BCs programs. Since then he has been offered by many of the nation's elite. 2-Chicago Area (Lemming-April 30, 2006) OFFERS: NILL,KANST, PUR,ILL,MICH, ND,IA, MICHST,USC, NEB,WISC,OHST, CMU,NW, KANST,GT,BC, TEN,COL,MIN

As a two-way player his junior season he rushed for over 2, 000 yards and 24 TDs and recorded 120 tackles, 33 for losses, 14 sacks, 5 fumble recoveries, and 1 interception. He has rushed for more than 4,200 yards in his career. Linebacker is his position at the next level. He is an instinctive 'backer who reads plays well and has excellent pursuit speed. One coach had this to say: "Donald was born to play linebacker. He was dominant playing 2A ball in Tennessee but to play at an SEC level he will need to get stronger and add about 15 to 20 pounds. 4 Richetti Jones LB/DL 6'3 234 4.78 Dallas Lincoln Texas Oklahoma State There must be something about Dallas and linebackers. For the second straight year possibly the top LB in the nation comes from Dallas, with Jones following in the footsteps of Sergio Kindle. It isn't a great year nationally for top linebackers, but Jones is an exception to the rule and one of the top 5 prospects in Texas. As a junior he registered 73 tackles, 16 sacks and 25 TFL. As a sophomore he recorded 75 tackles, 20 TFL, and 24 sacks. Fom his numbers it's clear that he's a tremendous pss rusher, but he has also gotten bigger and is stronger against the run. One coach had this to say: "Jones isn't the prospect that (Sergio) Kindle was, but not many are. What he has is football toughness, quickness and a nice frame that still needs to fill out. Once that happens he could be an exceptional player at the next level, and I mean exceptional." Has put on about 30 pounds the past year. 5 Chris Strong LB 6'3 240 4.60 Batesville South Panola Mississippi Mississippi Strong is a personal favorite of mine as Misissippi prospects are often underrated as there is not one major metropolitan area to flock to (the old saying is that Mississippi has two capitols - New Orleans and Memphis). Not Mr. Strong, at least not in my book. Hailing from the gridiron factory known as South Panola, Strong helped lead his team to yet another state title in 2005, earning all-state honors in the process. He is the top prospect in the state of Mississippi. He tallied 94 tackles and five sacks as a junior, fully recovering from an ACL tear in the third game of his sophomore season. He has tremendous size, aggressiveness, is strong (of course) and has a great workm ethic. This nephew of former Ole Miss LB Eddie Strong committed in February to Mississippi. 166 Hank Vincent LB/DL 6'2 230 4.80 Pasco Washington Vincent has a huge rep in Washington prep circles and parlayed that into First Team All-State honors as a junior after registering 11 sacks. He's a pass rushing terror from his DE position but the big question for colleges is whether he has the frame to bulk up to play DE or the quickness to stand up as a linebacker in college. The classic 'tweener, my best guess is that he has the speed and athleticism (4.8, 30-vertical, 300 bench press) to play standing up.
